New York Irish community to receive €72k for counselling services

Pieta House is to receive over €72,000 in funding to help provide counselling and suicide prevention services to the Irish community in New York.

The Minister for the Diaspora Jimmy Deenihan made the announcement this morning.

The grant aid will allow the service to set up a pilot programme with the three main Irish centres in New York - the Aisling Center, the New York Irish Center and the Emerald Isle Immigration Center - to establish a "Pieta Room" as the main point of referral for Irish people in crisis.

The allocation will also support the training of counsellors and counselling services.
