Daly and Wallace determined to defend themselves in Shannon case

Deputies Clare Daly and Mick Wallace say they will fully contest charges of illegally entering restricted areas at Shannon Airport.

Their case has been adjourned until the new year, when a date for their hearing will be set.

Deputies Wallace and Daly face charges of entering an unauthorised area at Shannon and scaling the airport perimeter fence on July 23 this year.

Speaking to Clare FM outside the courthouse in Ennis today, Deputy Mick Wallace explained why they did it.

"Both the former Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore and the former Minister for Justice Alan Shatter repeatedly said to us: 'Go and get the evidence, ye go and get it and come back to us'," he said.

"We went to Shannon, looking for the evidence, and obviously we were stopped.

"it’s pretty clear to most people that the use of Shannon by the US military to continue on to war fronts, to occupy sovereign states illegally and commit war crimes is something that this state needs to put a stop to."
