Victims group reports almost 5,000 requests for help from men

There were more than 4,800 requests for help from men last year to a support group for victims of domestic abuse.

According to the annual report for AMEN, more than 2,200 men reached out to the group during 2013.

That represents a slight drop of 400 requests last year, compared to 2012.

AMEN Support worker, Sandra Kelly, says there were nearly 8,000 reports of domestic abuse made by men.

She said: "We'll have victims who were stabbed, scalded or badly beaten with different objects, that is the usual type of injuries that we would hear about.

"Cigarette burns are another one that we hear about as well."
