Girl, 2, dies after being hit by lorry in Waterford

A two-year-old girl has died after being hit by a lorry in Waterford city this morning.

The incident happened at around 10.10am on Manor St in the city, gardaí said.

The mother of the child (30) sustained minor injuries during the incident. They were both removed by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford. The young girl was pronounced dead a short time later.

Gardaí say the area has been closed off to traffic and will remain closed for some time.
