Police in the North are appealing for witnesses to an armed robbery at a shop in east Belfast last night.

At around 9.15pm a man entered a shop in the Connsbrook Avenue area and demanded money from a member of staff.

He lifted his shirt to reveal a suspected firearm in the waistband of his trousers.

No money was handed over, but a quantity of cigarettes was taken and the man made off on foot.

He is described as being around 24 years old, five feet nine inches tall and of slim build.

He was wearing a blue hooded top and dark coloured tracksuit bottoms.
