Gardaí in Laytown are appealing for witnesses to a crash that left a teenage boy seriously injured.

The 13-year-old was struck by a car at the entrance to the Wellesly Manor Estate on the Eastham Road in Bettystown on Wednesday afternoon.

The driver was uninjured - the boy was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda but was transferred to Beaumont Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Gardaí are now asking anyone who may have been in the area at around 3.45pm that afternoon to contact Laytown Garda Station on 041-9813320, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
