Union welcomes workers' decision to end crane protest

Trade union Unite has today welcomed the decision by two of its members to descend from a tower crane they had been occupying at the JJ Rhatigan site at Kishoge Community College in Lucan, Co Dublin.

"We fully understand the frustration which led the two workers to occupy the crane, and we welcome their decision to leave the crane in order to facilitate our continuing efforts to resolve this dispute and ensure that our members have the decent pay and conditions to which they are entitled," said Unite regional officer Tom Fitzgerald.

"Unite remains determined that school building work must be decent work."

In a ballot conducted on September 11, Unite members working at the JJ Rhatigan construction site at Kishoge Community College, Lucan, Co. Dublin unanimously voted to take industrial action, up to and including strike action and placing pickets, at all locations where JJ Rhatigan & Co. carries out its business.

That action commenced on September 19 and has been continuing since, according to the union.
