Govt to be briefed on Ebola measures

The Government is to be briefed this week on measures to deal with any potential outbreak of Ebola here.

Defence Minister Simon Coveney last night chaired a meeting of the Government taskforce on emergency planning.

The meeting comes as a nurse in Spain diagnosed with Ebola is being treated in hospital in Madrid. Australian health officials have also confirmed a 57-year-old nurse who worked in Sierra Leone is being tested for the virus.

Sue-Ellen Kovack arrived back in the country from Sierra Leone - where she was working at an Ebola hospital - at the weekend.

Emmy Kubainski, from 7 News in Brisbane, says she monitored her own health while quarantined at home.

"She had been at her home in isolation and had to regularly test herself, taking her temperature twice a day," she said.

"This morning, she developed a very low-grade fever. That's when she notified authorities. They told her to go into hospital straight away, so she is isolation in hospital now."

Speaking in Co Mayo, Taoiseach Enda Kenny said the Ebola virus was a "grave concern".

"Ireland has sent about €11m into Liberia. Clearly this is a matter of the gravest concern for so many countries," he said.
