Widower of Dhara Kivlehan appeals to Health Minister to fix flaws

The husband of a woman who died after giving birth at Sligo General Hospital four years ago has appealed to the Health Minister to ensure that the recommendations from the inquest into her death are implemented in full.

Michael Kivlehan's wife Dhara died in Belfast as a result of multi organ failure 9 days after giving birth to their son Dior in Sligo Regional Hospital in 2010.

Last month an inquest into her death found she died as a result of medical misadventure.

The jury made several recommendations including prompt follow up on blood test results in all hospitals.

Michael Kivelehan told the Ray D'Arcy show this morning it has taken him four years to find out what happened to his wife. He said it is now up to the Health Minister Leo Varadkar to make sure it does not happen again.

"We've got the enlightenment of where they failed," he said. "I think it' about time somebody stands up to the HSE

"Where they broadcast publicly through an inquest where there failings were, [it's important] that our Minister is the first man to hear that - whoever he or she may be - and get it done."
