A father-of-five who was drunk and banging on a neighbour's door calling them a 'f**king rat' and then told gardaí to 'f**k off, you useless p**cks' has been given a two-month sentence which has been suspended for a year.
Austin O'Reilly (aged 48) also headbutted the cage in the garda car after he was arrested telling gardaí he would say they assaulted him.
O'Reilly, of Jugback Lane in Swords pleaded guilty at Swords District Court to being intoxicated and using threatening and abusive behaviour at Jugback Green on June 14.
Garda Keith Delaney said O'Reilly, who has 20 previous convictions, "kind of" apologised to him before the court.
Defence solicitor Fiona D'Arcy said the defendant had become involved in an argument with his neighbour, but that they have shaken hands now.
"He was under the influence of alcohol at the time and that combined with medication he is taking along with methadone resulted in him acting this way," explained Ms D'Arcy.
Judge Dermot Dempsey noted that O'Reilly did not make a proper apology to Gda Delaney to which Ms D'Arcy explained that O'Reilly got frustrated as he thought the incident happened on two separate occasions.
Judge Dempsey said he did not think it was appropriate for O'Reilly to do community service work in lieu of a prison sentence and sentenced him to two months which he suspended for one year for using threatening and abusive behaviour.
He further convicted and fined him €200 for being intoxicated.
