McNulty asked to reconsider decision to withdraw from Seanad race

John McNulty has been asked to reconsider his decision to withdraw from the Seanad by-election.

The Donegal businessman announced his decision to withdraw on Tuesday last.

Speaking shortly after the shock announcement, he said he was withdrawing from the by-election race as his participation in the contest had become a “distraction” from the work the Government was doing.

He also claimed that the decision was completely his own and that he was not pushed.

As the election cannot be stopped and Mr McNulty’s name cannot be withdrawn, he asked Fine Gael and Labour TD’s and Senators not to vote for him.

But it has been claimed today by Environment Minister Alan Kelly that many votes have already been cast for McNulty and that there is a real possibility that he will be elected to a seat in the upper house.

And now in a further twist, John McNulty has been inundated with calls from TDs and Senators asking him to reconsider his decision.

At this stage John McNulty is refusing to comment.
