Police arrest sixth man in €100m Cork drugs investigation

A sixth suspect being hunted by investigators probing the alleged plot to smuggle €100m of cocaine across the Atlantic in a yacht has handed himself in.

The 29-year-old from Leeds, wanted for questioning about the seizure of a tonne of narcotics on board the Makayabella off the coast of Cork last week, walked into a police station in West Yorkshire last night.

He has been arrested by the UK National Crime Agency.

Four British men have already been charged over the suspected drug trafficking attempt.

Three detained on board the 60 ft vessel by the Irish Navy last Tuesday were charged with drug trafficking in Cork.

A fourth man in the UK was charged with conspiracy to import cocaine.

Another man has been released on bail pending further inquiries.
