President formally invited to Donegal Orange Order celebrations

The President Michael D Higgins has confirmed he has been formally invited to Rossnowlagh in Co Donegal to join the Orange Order's July 12 celebrations next year.

In a historic move the Grand Master of the Orange Lodge of Ireland Edward Stevenson issued the invitation verbally at the march in Rossnowlagh this year.

It has now been confirmed by President Higgins that a formal invitation has been received, however he told Highland Radio that no decision on his attendance has yet been made.

“The letter has now being received and it is being processed.”

“I think that later on in the year that we will be through all of these (invitations) and establishing my schedule for the future,” said the President.

“But I wouldn’t be appropriate for me to give a comment on it now until we have had that examination.”
