The Army bomb disposal team has made safe a viable improvised explosive device in Dublin.

It follows the discovery of a suspect device, which was found in the garden of a private residence in Ronanstown by the owner, earlier this evening

It's understood the device was found in an overgrown area and may have been there for some time.

Members of the army bomb disposal team arrived at the scene at around 8.30pm this evening. The area was cordoned off and a number of houses were evacuated, while road closures were put in place for public safety.

The device was taken apart at the scene.

Gardai are now investigating the discovery and the scene was declared safe at 9.30pm tonight.
