Meat cleaver held to worker's throat in Dublin robbery, court hears

A court has heard how a meat cleaver was held to a worker's throat during the robbery of a petrol station in Dublin.

Shane O'Connor of Brookview Avenue in Tallaght is accused of taking part in a number of violent robberies earlier this month.

On August 12, a gang burst into a shop in Clondalkin armed with a meat cleaver and a wheel brace.

Gardaí say the men, some of whom wore masks, stole some cash from the till and assaulted a customer before stealing his phone and car keys.

Phones belonging to the workers were also taken.

Less than 15 minutes later, a petrol station in Palmerstown was robbed.

A meat cleaver was allegedly held to a female worker's throat and almost €2,000 was taken.

Shane O'Connor charged in connection with the robberies and he applied for High Court bail today after his application was refused in the District Court.

The 32-year-old father of one was granted bail on condition he stay with his father in Tallaght and sign on daily.

A file is currently being put together for the DPP who will ultimately decide how his case should be dealt with.
