Irish teenager 'beaten in prison'

An Irish teenager on hunger strike in an Egyptian prison has been beaten severely, according to his family.

Ibrahim Halawa's sister says she visited him yesterday in prison, where he has been kept for the last year after being arrested during a siege at a mosque in Cairo.

The three women were allowed home to Dublin last November, but their 18-year-old brother remains in prison.

His sister Nosayba Halawa says the situation is horrific.

"People who wear black and cover their face, they had guns, bombs, everything, they came and they started hitting them and started beating them," she said.
