Pair arrested after taxi driver who tried to help woman ambushed

A man and a woman have been charged in connection with the stabbing of a taxi man in Dublin.

The 32-year-old cab driver was attacked in the early hours of yesterday morning in at the Charlston Road/Oakley Road junction in Ranelagh, Dublin, when he tried to help a young woman who he believed had been beaten up.

When he went to her aid, he was set upon by two people and stabbed.

The victim was taken to St James' Hospital, where his condition is described as serious.

Gardaí arrested a man and a woman a short distance from the scene.

They were detained at Rathmines and Terenure Garda Stations under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The victim was taken to St Vincent's Hospital for treatment, but he has since been discharged.

Gardaí arrested a 27-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman.

They have been charged and will appear before Court 3 Criminal Courts of Justice on Monday at 10.30am.
