RSA: Oil and rubber build-up raising risk of skidding on roads

Motorists are being warned to take care as rain returns to the skies over Ireland.

The Road Safety Authority says an oil and rubber deposit has been building up on roads during the prolonged dry spell, and once this combines with rainwater, driving conditions will become hazardous.

The greasy surface increases stopping distances and the risk of skidding.

Officials say drivers should slow down and increase braking distances as a result.
