Fianna Fáil's Thomas Byrne has been eliminated in the Midlands North West European election following the results of the sixth count.

He has confirmed he will not call for a recount.

There are still two seats to fill in the race for Europe.

Independent Luke Ming Flanagan and Fine Gael's Mairead McGuinness have both been elected in the constituency.

The standings in the Midlands North West constituency after the sixth count:

Carthy (SF) 127,135,

Harkin (Ind) 99,843,

Gallagher (FF) 68,840,

Byrne (FF) 64,057
