Seat apiece for FF and FG in Cork

By Conor Ryan

Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil have taken a seat apiece in the first result of the day to be called at Cork County Hall.

Both Michael Creed (Fine Gael) and Aindrias Moynihan (Fianna Fáil) reached the quota on the first count.

Moynihan had a surplus of 816 and Creed exceeded the quota by 706.

Their surpluses will now be distributed with Sinn Fein's Des O'Grady within 70 votes of a council seat.

Speaking immediately after his election Creed said the party had run a disciplined strategy and it's three candidates had stuck to campaigning agreements.

He said he was confident of a least one more seat from the ward and possibly two.

The first count result heaped misery on the Labour Party with Martin Coughlan faring worse than the tally predictions which means his seat is, most likely, lost.
