Govt considers new insurance levy to cover flood distress fund

Irish people could be facing yet another additional charge on their insurance policies in the future.

According to today's Irish Independent, the Government is considering imposing a levy on every policy to create a distress fund which would help those who cannot get flood cover.

Environment Minister Phil Hogan says talks on the issue with an industry group are not making any real progress, while he has also criticised the effort companies are making to help those who have been badly affected by flooding.

Political Correspondent with the Irish Independent John Downing, says the proposed levy would just be the latest additional insurance cost for people in this country.
