Man to be sentenced for rape of two girls in Athlone

A man who admits raping two young girls who went missing from a birthday party is to be sentenced at the Central Criminal Court.

The incident happened in Athlone on September 28 last year.

The man, who is 30, has pleaded guilty to five charges of raping the girls at a house in Athlone.

The alarm was raised when the girls, aged six and nine, went missing from a birthday party nearby.

The defendant is from the Midlands and has not been named for legal reasons.

He is due to be sentenced at the Central Criminal Court later this morning
