€600k more for Poolbeg incinerator site

A decision by Dublin City Council to spend an extra €600,000 on the Poolbeg incinerator is being criticised by local residents.
The project has already cost the taxpayer over €95m, without any construction at all.
The site is a dead flat site, and they're going to spend another €600,000 between now and June," said Sandymount Resident Joe McCarthy, who has made a complaint to the European Commission.
"It's an empty site … not a brick laid on a brick … to see them committing to spend more money on it is just a scandalous waste of public money."
The council is forking out €300,000 on commercial, legal and technical advice, while €100,000 is being spent on site security.
A question mark still remains over the future of the project, with the European Commission set to make a decision on complaints over state aid and procurement rules.
