Orange weather warning in place for strong winds

An orange weather alert remains in place this morning with very strong winds of up to 130 kilometres per hour expected, particularly over Munster.

Widespread heavy, thundery, showers will develop throughout the day.

Coastal areas and exposed roads will be worst affected. There is also a yellow wind alert for Dublin, Louth, Wicklow and Meath.

Today is going to be an extremely showery day across the country," said Met Éireann forecaster Gerry Murphy.

"The winds will be a significant feature of the weather as well, most especially in the south of the country so parts of Kerry and Cork can expect some very strong winds in coastal areas through the day."

There are no reported flooding problems late this morning, although widespread heavy, thundery, showers will develop throughout the day.
