Taoiseach warns ‘neknomination’ is ‘not a game’

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny is pleading with people to give up the online craze ‘neknomination’.

Speaking in the wake of the death of a young man in Carlow over the weekend Kenny said the social media phenomenon has the 'most horrific consequences' and is 'not a game'

The body of 19 year-old Jonny Byrne was taken from the River Barrow yesterday.

Mr Kenny tonight told Galway Bay FM that young people engaged in the craze should stop:

“I was actually distraught to hear the comments from the father of the young lad (Byrne) who lost his life. I think people should take very serious heed of this.

“This is not a game and young people irrespective of their connection with social media should just give this up,” said the Taoiseach.
