Reilly welcomes new cigarette display research

The Minister for Health James Reilly is welcoming new Australian research that found a reduction in cigarette packets being displayed on tables after the introduction of plain packaging.

The Cancer Council Victoria research found a reduction of 15% in cigarettes being left visible on tables after the standardised packaging was brought in.

Separately, another study found that calls to Australia’s quitline soared by 78% in the month after the new packets were introduced.

Minister Reilly said standardised packaging will put an end to the shiny, attractive marketing by the tocacco industry and instead show the consequences of this killer addiction.
