High Court grants permission to withdraw life support for brain damaged baby

A Dublin maternity hospital has been granted permission by the High Court to withdraw life support from a day-old baby boy with severe brain damage.

The infant’s 20 year-old mother went into cardiac arrest and died last night following an emergency caesarean section at the Coombe Hospital, she had been 39 weeks pregnant.

The hospital required a court order to withdraw life support from the infant.

The President of the High Court Nicholas Kearns made the decision following a hearing tonight.
