Lightning cuts off power to thousands; Irish Ferries cancel sailings

A lightning strike has damaged power lines in the south of the country leaving up to 7,000 homes with no electricity.

ESB workers in the south-west to the south-east are working since early this morning to fix the problem and a spokesperson said they cannot predict when power will be restored.
