Irish Rail to monitor DART sizes after overcrowding complaints

DART services in Dublin are going to be inspected more often, following complaints of over-crowding.

Passenger safety has been called into question in recent weeks because of what's been described as dangerously full trains.

Transport Minister Leo Varadkar says the Railway Safety Commission has told him they'll up the number of inspections.

But Irish Rail's Barry Kenny says the company's already in constant contact with the RSC about this issue.

"We monitor our train sizes at all times and will continue to do so," Mr Kenny said.

"Indeed (we have) increased the size of a number of trains, particularly DARTs, to ensure that we are providing adequate capacity."
