Gardaí are expected to launch a murder inquiry once a post mortem is completed on the body of a woman found in an house in North Kerry yesterday morning.

The body of the woman, named locally as Susan Dunne, was found by a neighbour shortly before 10am in a bedroom of the bungalow she shared with her 19-year-old son Patrick in Lixnaw.

Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Magaret Bolster carried out a preliminary examination at the scene yesterday evening.

It is understood that Ms Dunne, who was in her early 50's, had suffered head injuries.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested for questioning, he's being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Listowel Garda Station.
