A Carlow man has been acquitted of raping his nieces over 30 years ago, but the jury has failed to agree on charges he sexually abused the girls and their next door neighbour.

The 51-year-old accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to 91 charges of rape, attempted rape and indecent assault of the three girls in a Carlow town between February 1978 and December 1986.
