Healthcare professionals warn against incorrect use of antibiotics

Antibiotic resistance is now a major public health threat in Ireland, according to healthcare professionals.

They are launching a new campaign today on European Antibiotic Awareness Day and are warning that the incorrect use of the drugs could wipe out their effectiveness.

Rory O'Donnell, President of the Irish Pharmacy Union, says while fewer people take antibiotics unnecessarily, we must not become complacent.
