Skerries murder accused remanded in custody

A 29-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Michael Gannon in Skerries.

Romanian national, Dergos Nia, with an address at Mourne Park, Skerries, is accused of stabbing the 55-year-old to death two days ago.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Thursday.

Mr Gannon, from Finglas, was stabbed after he answered the door while babysitting his two grandchildren at his daughter's home.

It is understood that while the children were in the house at the time they did not witness the attack.

It has been reported by The Herald that this is the second time the Gannon family has experienced tragedy.

Michael's nephew, Daniel O'Haire died last year at the age of 31 after he had been confined to a wheelchair for almost a decade because of a stabbing in 2003.

The results of a post mortem examination by the State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy on Michael Gannon's body show he died from multiple stabbings.
