Broken main disrupts water supply to northside of Cork city

A broken water main has disrupted the water supply to thousands of homes and businesses across the northside of Cork city today.

Cork City Council has this afternoon apologised for the inconvenience and said engineers are working to fix the problem.

“Every effort will be made to keep the disruption to a minimum,” a spokesman said.

The fault is due to a broken trunk water main in Cattle Market Street, which has affected water supply to Old Youghal Road, St Lukes, Middle Glanmire Road, Audley Place, Roche’s Buildings, Summerhill North, Glenthorn, Ballincollie Road, Ballyhooley Road, Parklands and all surrounding areas.

Areas around the Fox and Hound pub will also be affected as will areas in the neighbouring county council areas.

The spokesman warned that some discoloration to the water supply may occur when the water supply is restored.

"This discoloration is harmless, and will clear in a short time," he said.

"Please check the clarity of the water at the kitchen tap before operating drink vending machines, washing machines, dishwashers etc."

He also asked people who may not be aware of the problem to tell their neighbours.
