Woman dies after being struck by train in Co Wicklow

A woman has died after being hit by a train in Co Wicklow.

It happened near Kilcoole just after 11am this morning. The line has since reopened between Greystones and Wicklow.

However, Irish Rail's 11am Connolly to Belfast train is running 70 minutes late due to an earlier mechanical fault.

Jane Cregan, spokesperson with Irish Rail, said: "Emergency services remain at the scene in Kilcoole and the 9.40 service from Connolly to Rosslare struck and fatally injured a female in the vicinity of Kilcoole shortly before 11 o'clock.

"The line remains closed while emergency services attend to the scene there."
