Two male pedestrians have died following separate collisions in Galway and Meath today.

In county Meath, a 77 year-old male pedestrian, was fatally injured following a collision which happened on Main Street in Athboy at approximately 6.15pm.

The driver of the vehicle, who was the sole occupant, was uninjured.

The man was removed to Our Ladies Hospital in Navan where he was pronounced dead.

A post mortem examination is to be carried out. Main Street in Athboy, remains closed to allow gardaí forensic investigators to examine the scene.

In county Galway, a 65 year-old male pedestrian has died following a single vehicle accident in the townland of Tullychurch on the Galway to Carraroe road at around 6.20pm.

The driver of the car was not injured. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was taken to hospital where a post mortem will be carried out. Gardaí at Salthill are investigating the incident.
