A Polish man has been convicted by a jury of murdering his girlfriend in Dublin last year.

Waldamar Solowiow killed Mary Ryan in a drunken row at their home on Sherrard Street in May 2012.

The couple had been informed they were being evicted.

The 44-year-old Polish native told gardaí his partner had been attacked by a gang of three men, but later admitted that was a lie.

He will serve a mandatory life sentence for murder.
