A drug addict stole nearly €15,000 worth of computer and office equipment and then sold it on for €100, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court has heard.

Noel Clarke (aged 30) of Upper Dorset Street, Dublin pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary both at the Black Church, Marys Place, Dublin on May 16, 2012.

During two break ins on the same night Clarke stole five laptop computers and camera equipment with a total value of €14,578. He also caused €1,833 worth of damage to the business premises.

He later sold the stolen items to a man on O’Connell street for €100.

Garda Shane Connolly told Lorcan Staines BL, prosecuting, that Clarke was a homeless heroin addict who was stealing to feed his habit.

Clarke has 10 previous convictions including five for burglary.

In 2010, he received a four-year jail sentence with two years suspended for drug dealing.

Judge Martin Nolan sentenced Clarke to three years imprisonment but suspended the last year on condition that he obeys the instructions of the Probation Service.
