Mental health group records jump in young people seeking support

There has been a four-fold increase in the number of young adults looking for support from the mental health organisation Grow.

In the two years from 2010 to 2012 the number of 18 to 35 year olds attending their meetings around the country increased from 4% to 17% of attendees.

The group said the increase is most likely connected to the fact that several high-profile individuals have spoken publicly about their own problems, and this has helped to remove the stigma around mental health issues.

Grow is calling on the government to live up to a commitment to invest 35 million euro in community mental health services.
