Bruton to take part in live televised debate on Seanad referendum

Fine Gael has confirmed that Richard Bruton will take part in a live televised debate on the Seanad referendum tonight.

Minister Bruton will participate in a head-to-head debate with the Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin.

Minister Bruton will argue in favour of the Yes side, while Deputy Martin will represent the No campaign.

This morning Minister Bruton said he was not happy that the debate had been limited to representatives of political parties.

"This is an issue for citizens to make a decision and we believe that non-political groups and there have been many of them in this campaign should have an opportunity on RTE panels," he said.

"They should be there debating this."
