Teaching jobs at some Post-Leaving Cert colleges are to be reclassified so that non-registered teachers can keep their jobs.

The government has confirmed that new rules taking effect later this year will be relaxed so that adult educators won't lose their positions.

From November it will be illegal to appoint any teacher in a state-funded position unless they are a member of the Teaching Council.

However the Department of Education said some positions at Post-Leaving Cert colleges will be reclassified so that their instructors don't lose their jobs.
