FG TD proposes more levies on luxury items in Budget

The €1 levy on wine, which was introduced in last December's Budget, has created more than €45m in tax revenue during the past eight months.
The figures were revealed during a parliamentary question to the Finance Minister Michael Noonan from Kerry Deputy Brendan Griffin.
It has prompted him to call on the Finance Minister to consider introducing other small levies on luxury items in next month's Budget.
Mr Griffin, who is a member of Fine Gael, is proposing the Cabinet consider putting a 1 cent levy on text messages and a 10% tax on lotto or gambling winnings of more than €500,000.
