The research was carried out by Amarach, commissioned by website My-money.ie

When employers were asked about financial stress and its effect on employees, 78% of managers believed it was having a direct impact on productivity.

"41% of those employees are unable to sleep at least once a week because of money worries," said financial expert Liam Croke, who encourages people to take advantage of financial planning tools and impartial advice.

"41% of those surveyed use family and friends as their source of financial advice, and worst of all, money worries have become the single biggest contributor to personal stress, overtaking relationships [and] health issues."
