Four Irish jailed for up to 15 days in Egypt
It has been reported in Egypt that four Irish citizens are among nine foreigners who have been jailed for up to 15 days.
They are being detained pending investigation into charges including attempted murder, arson, belonging to an armed gang, and possession of arms and explosives.
The nine foreigners include Turkish, Canadian, and Syrian nationals.
The four Irish citizens have not been named by the media outlets.
Four Irish siblings were arrested at the weekend after troops stormed a mosque they were sheltering in during violent protests.
Sisters Omaima Halawa, 20, Fatima, 22, and Somaia, 27, and their 17-year-old brother Ibrihim were detained in Tora prison after being caught up in the storming of the city’s Al Fateh mosque by security forces on Saturday.
