Letterkenny hospital to open emergency department today

The new interim emergency department at Letterkenny General Hospital is due to open to walk-in patients from 12 noon today following the phased opening of the facility at the weekend.

This will be one of the most significant elements of the Co Donegal hospital's recovery, following severe flooding at the hospital in July which forced the closure of the ED.

The interim unit opened at the weekend to ambulances from Letterkenny, Fanad and Inishowen and it started to accept all ambulances, NowDoc and GP referrals from the region by yesterday evening.

Management are now reviewing their timetable for re-opening the hospital to emergency admissions from the entire county.
