Cork Gardaí question four in connection with attempted armed robbery

Gardaí in Cork are questioning four men in connection with an attempted armed robbery.

Last night a number of armed men are thought to have attempted to break into the home of the businessman in his 50s in Glounthaune, but Gardaí were alerted and the raid was foiled.

Two men in their 30s and 40s, both from the southside of the city and well known to Gardaí, were captured near the house and arrested by Gardaí from Cobh, Midleton and Cork city.

The men were detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act which allows Gardaí to hold suspects for up to seven days.

A short time later another two men were arrested and are being held at Midleton Garda Station.

Officers are continuing to search for another suspect while an incident room has been set up in Cobh Garda Station.

It is unclear whether there were family members at the house at the time of the attempted robbery, but a garda source confirmed that nobody was injured.
