Tapir attacks two-year-old girl in Dublin Zoo

A two-year-old girl has been injured after reportedly being attacked by an animal at Dublin Zoo.

Dublin Zoo has confirmed there was an incident involving one of their Brazilian tapirs, and a mother and child yesterday.

Reports this morning say a two-year-old girl and her mother were injured during a show-and-tell event at the zoo.

According to the Daily Mail, the toddler's mum was hurt as she tried to fight the female tapir off.

In a statement, Dubin Zoo said the incident was "unfortunate" and an investigation has been launched.

It also said that its immediate concern is the health and well-being of the visitors involved.

The paper reported the distinctive animal, with a long snout, had recently given birth to a calf and panicked when the young girl gave a shriek of delight.
