SIPTU representatives hope to meet with management from Marks & Spencer stores in the coming days.

It follows the company's announcement yesterday to close four branches in the Republic with the loss of 180 jobs.

The trade union said it will push for the best possible outcome for affected workers.

SIPTU organiser Neil McGowan, said first off, the company will meet with workers today.

"We will be meeting with the workers today and then we hope to engage with the company as soon as possible," he said.

"We want to reach the best possible option we can for our members."
