One man was killed and two others were injured when a stolen taxi crashed into a lock bridge along the River Liffey.

The accident happened at North Wall Quay in Dublin’s inner city at approximately 2.40am.

Gardai said there were three men in the car when it collided with the lock bridge, killing one in his early 20s.

“A second male, early 20s, received serious injuries and was taken to the Mater Hospital and the third male received minor injuries,” a spokesman said.

“The vehicle involved, a taxi, had been taken from its owner in the area, prior to the collision.”

North Wall Quay at the Convention Centre was closed in both directions for forensic collision investigation and diversions were in place.

Gardaí from Store Street have appealed for witnesses.
