Cannabis seized from 'swallower' at Cork Airport

A man who allegedly swallowed cannabis worth €10,000 to evade customs checks has been arrested, it has emerged.

The drug, made up of pellets, had been ingested by the Spanish man in his 40s who was stopped after leaving a flight from Spain at Cork Airport yesterday.

Approximately a kilogramme of drugs were seized after sniffer dog Max gave a positive reaction.

Following questioning by Revenue's customs officers, the man was detained under the Customs and Excise (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1988.

He began passing the pellets, at which time An Garda Siochana were called in and he was taken to hospital where the remainder of the swallowed drugs were passed under medical supervision.
